Window on Water Quality in the Shenandoah River Basin

The Shenandoah River basin covers 3,000 square miles in Virginia and West Virginia .Through the non-profit organization, Friends of the Shenandoah River (FOSR), citizen volunteers have collected samples of river water from throughout the basin since 1996 in order to monitor the water quality in the Shenandoah River and its tributaries. For more information about FOSR and its monitoring program, visit http://www.fosr.org/.

This website, a.k.a. the Water Window, is designed to act as an interface for the FOSR water quality data and to provide spatial information helpful in interpreting the results of the FOSR monitoring program. The Water Window allows you to navigate through the basin to find sampling sites, to retrieve spatial information about the sampling sites, and to view and print graphs of the water quality data. The Water Window is a customized interface to a geographic information system (GIS) created by a project team from the Shenandoah Valley Pure Water Forum, the Canaan Valley Institute, and James Madison University. For more information about the Water Window or the associated GIS project, contact ????
